Tony Curley
(1964 – ) | Near Apex, Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada
Tony loves to carve and he says that he has “a natural instinct in my soul”. He is the son of artist Kellypalik Curley. He has been carving over 30 years. The Arctic wildlife has influenced Tony and he often carves birds or bears. His birds usually swans or geese have long delicate necks with minimal details for the feathers. He seeks to capture a feeling with his carvings and expresses this through the serpentine or marble stone. Tony carves small to medium size sculptures. His sons Tommy Ezikiel and Tim Ezikiel are also carvers. Tony Curley’s work has been exhibited in Canada, the USA and Europe.
